Jay Balmer

Board Director– Vice Chair

Jay Balmer is a leader of creative projects with a professional background that spans multiple industries, from video game development and product strategy to live event production and public facility design. His professional passion is simply for leading teams to create great experiences for all stakeholders.

Jay has been applying his skills in the video game industry since 2003 while continuing to advocate for skateboarding in Canada. At Electronic Arts he worked on the premiere snowboard game, SSX3, and created the concept for the award winning EA skate. franchise. At Microsoft Studios he was the leader of an Incubation Team that explored new experiences and business models for future products, including XBOX One and Hololens.

Jay is a founding director of Canada Skateboard, the official governing body of skateboarding in Canada. He is also a co-founder and the COO of Session Games, a mobile game company in Vancouver that is focused on social-competitive games based on real sports, including an exclusive partnership with Fédération Internationale de Ski, the governing body for international winter sports.

Charmaine Crooks – CM, OLY

Ms. Crooks, CM, is a five-time Olympian and Olympic Silver Medalist in the 4x400m Relay. Ms. Crooks is an entrepreneur with over 20 plus years of Board experience including several technology Advisory Boards. President and Founder of NGU Consultants, a global sports marketing, management and corporate consulting company, which provides strategic counsel, marketing and growth strategies. She is a former Member of the International Olympic Committee Athletes Commission, and currently Vice President Global Esports Federation.

Sandy Millar

Sandy Millar has been in the Canadian risk management and insurance sector for over 15 years as a Sr Executive and currently Managing Partner, Equa Specialty Inc. He has expertise in governance in the private and non profit sectors. In addition to his professional management experience, Sandy brings a wealth of sport-specific knowledge and leadership insight to the Canadian Esports Federation board.

Jody Rebak

Technology & Innovation Committee Chair

Jody is Dapper Labs, Chief of Staff, and focuses on helping the world's most loved brands bring their communities onto the blockchain. Jody works in partnership with the Executive Team on long term business efforts and strategic partnerships, Jody is the first point of contact for our investor, strategic partner, and acquisition opportunity relations.

Jody attended the University of Toronto and began her professional life by founding Emery Lifestyle, an on-call personal assistant and errand service. After Emery, Jody was Director of Partnerships and Business Development for a venture-funded sports media company. SendToNews, and Director of Client Services at a payment technology platform, VersaPay.

Anson Henry, OLY Board Member

Athletes and Players Committee Chair

Content creator for CBC Sports, Canada’s Olympic broadcaster – Storytelling in both summer and winter sport. Specialist in track and field analysis. Former track and field athlete and member of Team Canada from 2001-2009 - (2004, 2008 Olympian).
Also attended the Rio 2016 Olympics and the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics as a journalist. Producer, host and creator of video game talk show PARLAY on CBC Sports.

Victor Ly

Board Member

Victor Ly, P.Eng (he/him) is an empathy-driven community builder with a collective 15 years of experience in leadership, community outreach & engagement, and management within the esports, innovation, and non-profit sectors.

A leader in Alberta's Esports industry, Victor is the President & Co-Founder of the Alberta Esports Association and Instructor for Esports Management at Mount Royal University, Alberta's first accredited esports academic program. Victor is a sitting Board Member with the Canadian Esports Association and Interactive Arts Alberta, as well as the Industry Advisory Council for the Edmonton Screen Industries Office and the Community Initiatives Committee for the Edmonton Regional Innovation Network.

Victor is a Professional Engineer, the Manager for Student Community & Engagement for the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta, and an avid competitor and tournament organizer within the Fighting Game Community.
